SUMMARY:Free Screenings!
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce that we will have two free skin cancer and prostate cancer screenings again this year. \nLast year’s screenings filled up so we encourage anyone who is interested to sign up early. The free skin cancer and prostate cancer screenings will be held at Tammy Walker Cancer Center on Saturday\, October 4th and October 11th. Both events will run from 9:00am to 12:00pm. There is no cost for the screenings\, but appointments are required. Individuals do not have to live in Saline County to attend the screenings. \nTo make an appointment\, contact Daniel Craig at 785-452-4848 or email dacraig@shrc.com. \nSkin cancer is the most common type of cancer found in both men and women. People of all ages should have moles and other unusual skin changes evaluated by a professional. \nProstate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men behind lung cancer. The prostate cancer screening is for men ages 55 to 69 and includes a PSA blood test and physical exam. Prior to testing men will have the opportunity to consult with a urologist to help decide if the screening is appropriate and desirable. \nA huge thank you to the Masonic Cancer Alliance and Salina Lodge #60 for helping us make these free screenings available to our community.

SUMMARY:Mobility on the Move: Ride CityGo
DESCRIPTION:Regional Mobility Manager Michelle Coats will host a special Mobility on the Move event during Kansas Week Without Driving\, September 29–October 5\, 2025. The event invites community members to meet in downtown Salina and ride Salina CityGo together for one full round on a route. \nThe ride is designed as an easy\, no-pressure way for first-time riders to experience the bus system. Participants will have the chance to learn how CityGo works\, see a route firsthand\, and discover how accessible and convenient public transportation can be. \n“We’re proud to support Kansas Week Without Driving 2025\,” said Michelle Coats\, Regional Mobility Manager. “Events like Mobility on the Move are a fun and welcoming way to show people that transit is an option for everyone — whether you’re commuting\, running errands\, or just exploring the community.” \nKansas Week Without Driving is a statewide effort to raise awareness of the challenges faced by people who cannot drive due to age\, disability\, or other reasons. The week encourages Kansans to consider what it would mean to go without driving and highlights the importance of having safe\, reliable\, and accessible transportation options for everyone. \nThe event is free and open to the public\, but space is limited to the first 10 participants. Advance registration is required\, click here to register. \nFor more information about Mobility on the Move\, contact:\nMichelle Coats\nRegional Mobility Manager\n785.826.1583

SUMMARY:Fe for a Cure
DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open for one of the region’s most fun\, family friendly and affordable running and walking events – the Fe for a Cure! This year’s race will be held on Saturday\, September 20th\, 2025 and will start and finish at Tammy Walker Cancer Center. In addition to a USATF Certified 5K race a new one mile fun run was added in 2024. It makes the Fe For a Cure Race/Walk an event the entire family can participate in. The 5K race will be starting at 8:00a.m. with the one mile fun run following at 8:10a.m. The Fe For a Cure 5K was the first ever USATF Certified race held in Salina (2022) and along with the Salina Crossroads Marathon is one of only two USATF Certified races in Salina. \nThanks to the generosity of sponsors\, 100% of your entry fee directly supports cancer patients through services and equipment needs at the Tammy Walker Cancer Center. \nEvent organizers have set a goal of having 1\,000 registered participants this year. Last year’s event drew a record 834 registered participants. Registration is $25 for ages 12 and older and $10 for ages 11 and younger. All who register will receive a commemorative race t-shirt. Cancer survivors who register will receive specially designated t-shirts. \nLast year the event raised $26\,439 through registrations\, donations\, and ribbons sales. An anonymous donor also contributed $30\,000\, bringing the total raised to a record $56\,439! Here are some of the programs that funds raised from the Fe For a Cure help to support: \nPatient meal program Patients undergoing long chemotherapy infusions are offered a meal (lunch)\, Monday thru Thursday. The patient meal program started in November 2022 and over 3800 meals have been served. What an amazing gift to our patients! During the school year the patient meal program provides our Project Search interns the opportunity to learn work skills and business soft-skills with the goal of helping them gain employment. During the summer we have volunteers who help out.\nAppearance center Patients are able to get wigs\, hats\, scarves\, and other items at no cost. Wigs and other items from the appearance center can help empower patients and help them feel more comfortable and confident as well as provide a sense of normalcy during treatment.\nTransportation assistance Transportation shouldn’t be a roadblock to cancer treatment. Our partnership with OCCK allows us to offer transportation services to those who need it at no cost.\nMorrison House The Morrison House is a guest residence for those living outside Salina with a loved one who is a patient at Salina Regional Health Center and outpatients undergoing treatment at the Tammy Walker Cancer Center. \nTo volunteer to help with Fe for a Cure\, contact Daniel Craig at dacraig@srhc.com or 785-452-4848.
